Spring in
Auckland
The season
Spring in Auckland is spring in name only for a while. Anyone who has been through a winter here knows what the first few weeks actually look like. Still windy, still raining, fifteen degrees, and the wind making it feel like less than that. The thing that changes first is not the temperature. It is the UV, which climbs well before the warmth does and catches people out every year.
Then it turns. Lambs at Cornwall Park. Cherry blossoms, worth planning around because the window is about four weeks and then it is gone. Clocks go forward on the 27th and by November it is light until eight, which changes what a weeknight is for.
And there are enough festivals to carry you through to Christmas. The Auckland Moon Festival at the end of September, Halloween on a Saturday this year, Guy Fawkes the week after.
Everything worth putting in the diary between September and November. Pick a month or a date below to see what is on.
