Titirangi Village Market
Why go
Titirangi Village Market is a properly lovely little market to combine with a Waitākere Ranges walk on a fine Sunday. It's not the biggest in Auckland — Smales Farm and Takapuna's weekly market both pull more stalls — but it has genuine character: a curated 100+ vendors, a warm community feel, and a location on the edge of the rainforest that gives the whole morning a "fringe of heaven" energy the name promises. Run by parents of the Titirangi Rudolf Steiner School as a fundraiser since 1991, it's now a monthly Titirangi institution — arts, crafts, food, vintage, live music, and the kind of stallholders you actually want to chat to.
What to expect
The market splits across two locations right next to each other. The indoor section at the Titirangi RSA (502 South Titirangi Road) is the crafts heart — felt creations, crochet, hand-knitted wares, handmade jewellery. The outdoor section at the War Memorial Hall carpark (500 South Titirangi Road) is mainly food, with some crafts sprinkled through — jewellery, ceramics, and produce. You'll see a few familiar Smales Farm Market stallholders here (there's genuine crossover in Auckland's artisan community), but plenty of vendors unique to Titirangi too.
Pair it with a bush walk. This is where the market really earns its trip. If you're with kids over 5, the Zig Zag Track nearby is a lovely option — but be warned: it goes downhill and isn't a loop, so you have to turn back and climb the same way up. Plan accordingly if little legs will be involved. For an easier option, there are plenty of shorter walks in the surrounding Waitākere Ranges Regional Park.
