Why go

Smales Farm Market is one of the loveliest ways to spend a Sunday morning on the North Shore — a curated monthly artisan market hosted at Smales Farm in Takapuna, officially run by The Market Collaborative. It sprawls across the Goodside dining precinct: stalls line the roadside behind the restaurants, wrap around the upper carpark, and spill into the restaurant atrium itself. The vendor mix punches well above its size — over a hundred stallholders across food, drink, craft, jewellery, vintage, ceramics and gifts, all genuinely artisan rather than mass-market. A real "go in for a look, leave with three things you didn't plan to buy" market.

What to expect

The market splits across two adjacent zones at Smales Farm. The main stretch runs along The Avenue between the two roundabouts, with a small cluster of stalls spilling into the dead-end road beside Fantail & Turtle. A second larger cluster of stalls fills the round courtyard just across the road, by the Inland Revenue building. The two zones are close but easy to miss — walk both to see everything.
The artisan food range is properly impressive — pastries, freeze-dried fruit, marshmallows, salami, gin, nut butters, kimchi, bubble tea kits, matcha kits — with most food stallholders happily offering free samples, which makes it brilliant for keeping kids engaged. The craft and design side is just as strong: felt creations, handmade polymer jewellery, hand-knitted wares, vintage clothing, vintage ceramics, hand-crafted wooden chopping boards, and 3D printed toys for kids. The leafy Smales Farm setting and the on-site cafés make it easy to settle into a proper morning — coffee, breakfast, browse, samples, repeat.
