Destination Playgrounds
Worth the Journey
The playgrounds that earn a Saturday morning — proper toilets, café nearby, shade in summer, equipment for more than one age.
Tui Glen Reserve Playground
A hidden Henderson playground with three climbing towers, a flying fox and a sand area, in a park that was the county's first camping ground back in 1925.
Western Springs Park Playground
One of Auckland's best destination playgrounds — genuinely high slides, a climbable lizard, bongo drums and wandering pūkeko, right next to the zoo and the lake. A proper outing in its own right.
Takapuna Beach Reserve Playground
Arguably one of Auckland's best playgrounds — staggered slides, sand and water play, an in-ground trampoline, BBQs and hammocks, with Takapuna Beach right there. A full family day out without moving the car.
Windsor Reserve Playground
One of Auckland's best destination playgrounds, right on the Devonport waterfront — a magnificent lighthouse tower climbing frame, a bucket-and-chain sand lift, trampolines and swings, all under mature pōhutukawa with the city skyline behind.
