Tuitui Museum Bistro & Café
Why go
You don't need a museum ticket to eat here — and that's worth knowing. Tuitui Museum Bistro & Café sits in the stunning south atrium of the Auckland War Memorial Museum, and it's one of the more characterful lunch spots in Parnell. The name means "to stitch together" in te reo Māori — the idea of bringing people together over good food and kōrero. Owned by local restaurateurs Brian and Sali Sewell, the menu leans into creative interpretations of Kiwi classics — fish and chips, mussels, roast lamb, woodfired pizza — all made with seasonal produce from independent NZ suppliers.
What to expect
A warm, atmospheric room inside one of Auckland's most iconic buildings. The menu is full of considered takes on Kiwi staples, plus a proper kids' menu and a weekday breakfast service. The drinks list is worth a look — NZ wines take centre stage, the beer comes from Waipu's McLeods Brewery, and there's an exclusive Tuitui IPA on tap. Cocktails are available, the bar is fully licensed, and the whole experience pitches itself as a destination in its own right rather than a museum afterthought.
