Duck Island started with a bold idea on the first day of winter in 2015 — handmade ice cream in Hamilton, of all places. The doubters didn’t last long. Now Auckland has four locations to enjoy their boundary-pushing flavours made from locally sourced, fresh ingredients. The fairy bread flavour — hundreds and thousands on buttered white bread reimagined as ice cream — is a certified Kiwi classic, and the salted caramel and cacao crumb is not to be missed.

The Takapuna store is perfectly positioned for a post-beach treat — sandy feet genuinely welcome. Choose from 24 flavours daily including a range of vegan options, or grab a pint, sandwich or ice cream cake from the freezer to take home.

While Duck Island is available in selected New World supermarkets, visiting a scoop store is a completely different experience — the full range of creative flavours and handcrafted ice cream cakes are only available in store. Worth seeking out the real thing. 🍦
