Silky Otter has quietly become one of Auckland’s favourite nights out — an independent cinema that started with a single location at Ōrākei Bay Village in 2019 and has since earned a devoted following for doing everything the big cinema chains don’t.

Every seat is a full leather recliner. Every screen uses laser projection and surround sound. And rather than a sad bag of overpriced popcorn, Silky Otter runs a full-service kitchen with a hand-crafted menu made from fresh ingredients. Freshly cooked hot food, indulgent desserts, classic movie favourites, premium beers and wines — all delivered directly to your recliner before the film starts. It’s genuinely good food, not an afterthought.

The Ponsonby location on Richmond Road has four intimate 28-seat auditoriums, an SO Lounge and a sun-soaked outdoor space perfect for a pre-film drink. Ōrākei Bay Village has two 44-seat screens sitting within one of Auckland’s best neighbourhood dining precincts. And the Takanini location brings the same premium experience to South Auckland.
