Farro began with a simple but powerful idea. In 2006, James and Janene Draper opened a single store in Mt Wellington with a team of 12 and a passion for showcasing the finest seasonal and local produce New Zealand had to offer. Nearly two decades later, Farro has grown to seven Auckland locations and 450 staff — but the founding philosophy hasn’t changed a bit.
At the heart of Farro is its relationship with New Zealand’s artisan producers. The stores have helped launch and sustain more than 500 small producers nationwide, giving Kiwi makers their first real foothold in the marketplace. Free-range meats, fresh market produce, a full delicatessen with artisan cheese, New Zealand wine and craft beer, specialty ingredients — it’s a genuine food lover’s destination.
Farro takes sustainability seriously too, with less than one percent of food waste going to landfill and a long-standing partnership with Fair Food redistributing surplus produce to Auckland families every week.
